Poem of Honorable Harvest

We are…

Giving thanks to all of us

and to the creators of us all -

our parents, our ancestors,

those who have returned

the ancestors our children will be

the divine that courses through our veins

Giving thanks to those who love with open hearts

Who leave tomatoes on the vine to share

Who see beauty in all transformations

Thank you for your sweat and labor

Giving thanks to water and air we cannot live without

Our lives, our faith and our hope are restored in seeds

that find earth beneath our feet for their roots to draw up

the fluid of our nourishment and health

like in the herbs and teas we tasted today

Now re-enter the warm house

Become encumbered with embraces

arrive home after a busy summer

growing, yearning, reaching and yawning

take rest,

settle your mind,

fall into sleep

and continue
